Panorama Ridge Oct 13th (snow update)

Obviously everybody knows this hike, so just an update on the conditions.

We were out October 13th. Got to the carpark around 9:30 AM. Spikes went on at 1050 m due to ice on the trail.

It was very windy so hard to judge the snow level in the alpine. In Taylor meadows some spots were scoured bare and some parts were probably over 30 cm. At the top, definitely some drifts were over a meter, but a lot was very thin. Trail was obviously packed down, and some parts of the scramble were still mostly rock.

The wind was howling on all the exposed parts of the ridge and the way up, leading to the variable snow depths I mentioned.

By the afternoon when we were coming down, a lot of the trail in the flat part between the Panorama Ridge turnoff and Taylor meadows campground was melted (where it was sun-exposed). Less melting in the forest.

Thanks for sharing the snow conditions @KatieBoss! I was just across the valley towards Callaghan and interestingly saw way less snow!
