Started at the 2WD trailhead around 10.30, probably around 20 cars parked there! We set up camp in the alpine and started our summit push at 3pm.
We followed the Alltrails route and I was very happy with it as it minimize the time spent boulder hopping. We climb the ridge on the left side through a chimney which involved a couple of easy scrambly moves. After that it’s pretty straightforward until we got to the gendarme (which some of us mistakenly climbed…), and then we followed the cairns (i.e. stayed below the ridge crest) until the true summit. We made it back to camp just before it got pitch dark, so we were treated to an amazing sunset on our way down!
Overall a very nice weekend, I was pleasantly surprised to see the boulder fields weren’t bad at all, but I was hoping for a more exciting scramble (mostly class 2 and some rare class 3 with no exposure), so this is more a long hike than a scramble I would say (it’s so beautiful than making it a two day trip to fully experience the peace and soak in the views is so worth it!). Excellent views most of the trip!
