Mt Bishop - January 1st

Bike to Bike 6h

9km, 1300m eg (plus 30km biking)

Trail is steep but not as bad as I was expecting, the little scrambly sections were fun. Lots of good holds and roots everywhere (which, having watched Stranger Things the night before, was a bit eerie) so I didn’t find the ropes necessary.

Hit saturated at around 800m and had to put on the snowshoes right away, it’s currently a tree well hell up there… the Vicar lakes aren’t frozen yet, the snow turned into heavy wet powder at that point so trail breaking became painful.

Cool snow formation:

After that it’s pretty straightforward along the ridge (went straight up without following the flags) and up the peak (snow was bomber which is necessary considering the terrain).

From Bishop, looking towards the Judge and his friends:

I was planning to go for Deacon but lacked motivation, and decided to tag Gibbens on the way down instead since the summit looked like it’d have good views.

Coliseum/Burwell/Cathedral from Gibbens:

Views from Bishop are good but that’s a lot of work to get there! 3.5h up and 2.5h down (incl. Gibbens detour), plus 30km/2h of biking from Cap U.
